Air Handling Unit
We offer a quality range of air handling unit, which is used for conditioning and circulating the air as a part of the heating, ventilating and air conditioning system. In order to ensure efficiency and durability, we make use of latest engineering techniques and quality material to manufacture our range of air handling unit. Owing to their high quality standards, these air handling unit are applied in following sectors:

In conformity to the mentioned standards the following guidelines need to be considered while proposing Air handling units to reduce the risk of un hygienic installation:

1) Casing Materials:

•Specify correct material quality, suitable for particular environment and use minimum requirement as per DIN 1946 part 4 (hospital applications):
•Galvanized and minimum 25µm plastic coated or powder coated
•2 layer painting with primer and finish minimum 60µm floor parts including guide rails and frame parts and all parts which could come in contact with condense made of stainless steel minimum AISI 304 or alluminium alloy AlMg)

2) Non Metallic Parts:

•Don’t use any non metallic part inside the air stream which could:
- Emit harmful substances
- Provide a nutrient substrate for micro organisms
•Ask for test and certificate issued by a governmental authority or by an accredited laboratory, to prove these properties

3) Requirements regarding construction details:

The materials, the design of surfaces and geometrical shaping of the system components shall be suchto prevent the adhesion and depositing of contaminations and permit easy cleaning

4) Construction Details:

•Use as far as possible smooth surfaces without hidden edges
•Avoid semi-closed profiles, which can not be cleaned
•Avoid any grooves and edges not possible to clean
•Avoid any point formed by self winding screws, rivets etc, which could impede cleaning inside the air stream

5) Accessibility:

All components must be accessible for the purposes of the required inspection and cleaning work.
For this reason:
•Provide inspection doors (not removable panels) on each section necessary to enter.
•Provide inspection section upstream of each filter section. (Side removal only acceptable for pre filters)
•Provide inspection section upstream and downstream of each coil section, energy recovery system or droplet separator.

6) Cleaning of Cooling coils:

•Reduce dirt by selecting minimum filter F5 upstream of coil
•Provide control with time offset to dry the coil in case of fan switching off
•Provide inspection section upstream and downstream of each coil section, energy recovery system or droplet separator.
•Reduce finned depth of coil to assure the continuous cleaning is possible (If not possible provide separate coil stages)
•Select suitable coil geometry and specify fin thickness, with tested cleaning.
•Provide droplet separator –separately removable, if water carryover can not be excluded.

7) Droplet separators:

•Droplet separators must be made of suitable materials which do not emit harmful substances and which do not provide a nutrient substrate for micro organisms
•Droplet separator shall be accessible for checking and easily removable for cleaning
•Easily removable means: side removal through an inspection door
•Droplet separators should be divided in sections to permit easy manual handling for bigger sizes

8) Condense trays / drain pans:

•Condensate tray shall be made of corrosion resistant material, such as AISI 316
•Condense tray must be sufficiently sloped in all directions toward the drain opening recommended: min 3% inclination
•Condensate tray shall be easily accessible for cleaning and disinfection
•The construction must ensure, that the tray empties itself completely during standstills, allowing any residual water adhering through surface tension to dry off by “dry blowing” the system

9) Filters:

•Filters must be easily accessible for checking and filter change
•Filter must be sealed against its frame with closed cell permanent fixed sealing
•Filter maintenance should be done from raw air side, so filter should be pressed by the air stream against the sealant
•Side removal only acceptable for heights less than 1m and filter frames with proved tightness
•Recommended minimum filter classes for supply air:
•First filter stage minimum F5, recommended F7
•Second filter stage F9

10) Drain Trap / Siphon:

•Drain tube should have minimum 40mm diameter
•Each drain tube must be equipped with separate siphon with trap (never interconnect several drain pipes on one siphon)
•Drainage system must not be connected directly to the sewage pipe system (water should run free out of the drain trap in a funnel)
•Fill drain trap with water when commissioning
•Select the correct drain trap type (pressure side – suction side) with sufficient heights

11) Fan Motor Sections:

•Specify corrosion proof material (refer to 1. requirement)
•Prefer fans with backward curved blades for energy and cleaning purposes
•Prefer plug fans instead of radial scroll fans
•In case of radial (scroll-) fans for small units (height < 1.200mm): specify side removal on rails, with quick release flexible connector.
•In case of radial (scroll-) fans for big units: (height > 1.200mm): specify:
- Inspection opening for checking and cleaning (for sizes > 400 mm wheel dia.)
- Radial (scroll-) fans should have inspection opening for checking and cleaning

Finally to ensure a hygiene conformed AHU execution:

1. Specify AHU execution to be according to actual and sophisticated hygiene standards, treating this matter specifically - VDI 6022 – part 1-for all HVAC applications
- DIN 1946 – part 4 – for hospital applications

2. Ask for manufacturers declaration of conformity for the delivered units

3. Specify manufacturer to provide third party certification of conformity from independent accredited laboratory, specialized on hygienically tests (such as ILH – Berlin or equivalent)
